The doors at the KCRW studios were flung open to welcome Owen Pallett and his guitarist for this live performance of “Lewis Takes Action” from Heartland. The tracks from Pallett’s ambitious album work best when listened to as a whole so all the narrative strands can be pieced together, but this is still a fine, touching and deeply melancholy rendition of the song.
Anyone looking for an album that embodies “one-sided dialogues with Lewis, a young, ultra-violent farmer, speaking to his creator” (from Pallett’s own press release for Heartland) should abruptly halt their search at the doorstep of this record, which is starting to sound like his best effort yet.
