L.A.'s Open Mike Eagle doesn't care if you think his approach to hip-hop his unorthodox. Hell, dude named his previous album Unapologetic Art Rap. But even so, he is able to find a common ground between abstract and accessible, something he especially demonstrates on his new single, "Nightmares." The track plays out like you're listening to the jumbled thoughts of a confused man, who just so happens to have a barbershop quartet as his mental soundtrack. But it never gets so difficult that you're left feeling confused or, even worse, bored. Call it the mark of a good songwriter.
Mike's new album, Rappers Will Die of Natural Causes, drops June 7. Stream "Nightmares" below.
