One Day As A Lion

Wild International (Stream)

Average Rating: 8.00

When it was announced in early July that One Day as a Lion, the collaboration between Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore (ex-Mars Volta), would be putting out a debut EP on July 22, the only question was how would the music sound. Well, if “Wild International,” the first track on the EP (now streaming on the band’s MySpace page) is any indication, a whole lot like Rage Against the Machine.

De la Rocha drops a lot of political raps over a crunchy guitar line, making the song sound like it could have come off Battle of Los Angeles. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing-- it’s not like De la Rocha was going to go all acoustic folk like ex-Rage mate Tom Morello-- but the song sounds a little too familiar. But it has been eight years since De la Rocha laid anything of any significance to wax, so it’s a welcome return.

One Day as a Lion is out on 7/22 via Anti-.
