On "Be And Bring Me Home," the second track available from Roky Erickson's forthcoming solo album, True Love Cast Out Evil, the former 13th Floor Elevator frontman and resident of Rusk State Hospital for the Criminally Insane sounds as earnest as ever. Over barstool piano and subtle horns provided by backing band Okkervil River, he pleads to be brought home and declares his love for his family.
The track, available at Stereogum, is originally from Never Say Goodybe, a collection of Erickson's recordings from 1971 to 1985, while he was still under the supervison of Rusk. It is one of several songs from the prolific artist's expansive catalog that Will Sheff, Okkervil River frontman and the album's producer, resurrected and reworked for the album. True Love Cast Out Evil's first single is "Goodbye Sweet Dreams," and the album is due out on April 20.
