"Shift Operator" might be one of the most menacing tunes in the expanding Obits catalog. The bass is fuzzed-out beyond belief, and the guitars stab like crudely made shanks. Yet the tempo never gets faster than a stalkery lurch. It shows a band of indie rock vets, who have put in time with Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu and Edsel (just to name a few) in complete control, offering something more restrained, but just as, if not more compelling. Give it a listen below, and check out this Village Voice article where guitarist/vocalist Sohrab Habibion explains the story behind the track.
