It seems that Noel Gallagher has edged away from the Oasis sound for his upcoming solo debut, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. “AKA…What a Life!” is the second taste of that record after “The Death of You and Me,” and it’s driven by the kind of “baggy” beat that’s reminiscent of long-forgotten indie-dance crossover bands like the Mock Turtles and the High. It feels like that sound is overdue a reappraisal, so the older Gallagher brother may be onto something here, and it certainly makes sense in the context of his promised collaborative LP with Amorphous Androgynous that’s due out next year.
