No Doubt's reunion tour got off to a shaky start on Friday when the band dropped by the Today Show to do a brief set consisting of early hits "Spiderwebs," "Don't Speak" and new-ish Talk Talk cover "It's My Life." "Spiderwebs" (above) is probably the roughest of the bunch, since Gwen Stefani has a lot of problems keeping up with the runs and even hands the mike off to the crowd for an even rougher stretch. "It's My Life" (first below) has some sub-standard mixing, as Stefani's voice is really the only thing that is completely clear during the verses. "Don't Speak" (second below) is prefaced by an awkward interview where the band is asked clearly uninformed questions by Meredith Viera and Matt Lauer who clearly have never read anything about the band. "Don't Speak" is probably the "highlight" here, since the band have probably had to play this a 150,000 times since 1996. 

At first, it seemed like a No Doubt reunion would allow the band to pick up where they left off five years ago when Stefani went solo, but it's clear, given this performance, that this a classic rock giant-esque glory tour where they run through the hits with minimal fireworks.
