The Lotus Eaters were an ‘80s pop band who touched Nick Cave so deeply that he’s paid tribute to them on the Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! track “Night of the Lotus Eaters.” Okay, that’s probably not quite true. But the Lotus Eaters’ overly sentimental ‘84 hit “The First Picture of You” is pretty damn catchy. Cave has produced a low-key video for “Night of the Lotus Eaters,” which has been shot against a backdrop of burning cars and riot police. The singer’s handlebar moustache has been trimmed back a little, Warren Ellis looks like his beard is about to consume him, and the gently meandering track is a bass driven number reminiscent of the quieter moments in “Tupelo.”
