I’m not entirely sure where this remix to Gil Scott-Heron’s bluesy “New York is Killing Me” came from, but it’s certainly a nice treat on this humid Monday afternoon. The cut from I’m New Here gets a boost from Mos Def. And it actually ends up sounding like a track from his 2009 album, The Ecstatic, because of the minimalist production and hand clap-driven beat. His smooth flow matches the track perfectly and complements Scott-Heron’s gravelly spoken word verses. Could this potentially lead to these two teaming up for an official song in the future? Here’s hoping, as this sounds great.
