“New Orleans” (Live On Fallon) (Video)

Emmylou Harris’ 26th studio album Hard Bargain was issued earlier this year, and it contains her usual mix of country and folk impulses. On Jimmy Fallon’s show last night (July 19) she performed “New Orleans” from that record, which takes the tragic 2005 levee failure during Hurricane Katrina as its lyrical starting point. It’s an upbeat country-rock track that’s well suited to Harris’ vocal style, which has retained the edge she’s possessed since emerging onto the music scene in the early 1970s. Even Fallon appears (rightly) over-awed when he leaps onto the stage at the end. [via The Audio Perv]
