On November 22, Neutral Milk Hotel man Jeff Mangum will self-release a vinyl-only box set that collects his two LPs, his EP, and a variety of extras. Among those extras are a couple of unreleased Neutral Milk Hotel jams, the most recent of which is now streaming on his website. It's called "You've Passed," and it's actually an alternative version, recorded in 1994, of the the version of the song that appeared on 1996's On Avery Island. This alternate version is pretty massive; It imagines Neutral Milk Hotel as a semi-stoner metal band full of crushing grooves and riffs. The original is a bit more subdued, but it does have some of this swagger.
