What do you get when you mix a member of the Spank Rock crew, a Stroke, and a N.E.R.D.? Apparently, “My Drive Thru,” a track commissioned by Converse to commemorate the centennial of the Chuck Taylor.
The three participants here deliver exactly what you’d expect from all of them: Pharrell kicks the track off with his trademark, goofy, Prince-like falsetto, Casablancas sounds drunk and mumbles a lot, and Santogold sing-raps put-offs to some unknown aggressor.
Production wise it’s pretty stagnant; one riff is played underneath all the performers with very little change at all throughout the song’s four minutes.
If anything, this track stirs up the heat for the rumored track collaborations between Bradford Cox (he of Atlas Sound and Deerhunter infamy), YACHT, Kid Sister, Gallows, Does it Offend You, Yeah?, Fiery Furnaces, and Care Bears on Fire. [Nah Right]
