N.E.R.D. played a big free outdoor show in Times Square last week, and they came back to New York City to perform for David Letterman’s show last night (Sept. 28). “Hypnotize You” is taken from the forthcoming album by the band, which is titled Nothing, and due out on Oct. 19 (maybe).
The performance begins with Pharrell Williams getting his falsetto on while a group of women sit at his feet, and then…nothing. Perhaps Williams thought it would be an amusing reflection of the album title to have people doing nothing on stage, but it makes for an odd and slightly uncomfortable performance, and the song demonstrates that the super producer’s golden touch seems to have long since deserted him.
