Back in August, Pharrell claimed that the new N.E.R.D. album, Nothing, would sound like a cross between the Doors and America. Oddly enough, it seems kind of true. The album's first single, "Help Me," has a pretty strong Doors vibe, though it seems especially akin to "Five To One," which has a special place among hip-hop fans for the sample used in Jay-Z's "Takeover." Still, I have to admit that it does kind of sound like the Doors, which is weird.
And the video tries to make some sort of political statement (or something), showing dystopian images from the last decade juxtaposed with those of the last 50 years. N.E.R.D. aren't really a political group, though, so all this posturing just comes as a fashion accessory. "Yeah, we skateboard, but we also watch C-SPAN," which I don't really believe.
But yeah, "Help Me" kind of sounds the like Doors.
Nothing is out November 2.
It does "kind of" sound like The Doors. Weird video, cool song.
I'm finding myself really wanting to hear this album in spite of my disdain for NERD and what they do.
