Neko Case

Three Songs Unplugged (Audio)

Neko Case's vocals stand out in the high-energy pop of the New Pornographers, so an unplugged set on public radio with only a guitarist and a backing vocalist is an excuse to have even less distracting from her gorgeous voice. Case plays "Middle Cyclone," "People Got a Lotta Nerve," and a cover of a Harry Nilsson tune, "Don't Forget Me," all from her most recent album, Middle Cyclone. Don't ignore the interviews, either, to hear Case talk about smoking PCP in Tacoma, Washington, why she prefers writing songs about animals to songs about love, and her secret joy when she hears news stories featuring animals attacking humans. 1. I agree about Case's voice, it seems so sincere and vulnerable.
2. I love the line "Can't give up acting tough,
it's all that I'm made of."
3. I also think some of her lyric's remind me of Trent Reznor's. (I am thinking of the empire one in particular.)
4. Her "talking" voice freaks me out! And I am uncomfortable with her liking "King of the Hill."
