If the cover art from Middle Cyclone didn't tip you off, Neko Case is one feisty lady, and "People Got a Lotta Nerve" is set to be her new anthem. Nevermind that she tells you she's a maneater in the chorus, she sounds like one as she puts just enough snarl into the otherworldly beauty of her voice. And laid over a sturdy and intricate foundation of country-touched pop, the song is infectious and, well, a little alarming for the men out there. Case is a siren, luring us in with that sweet voice, and then going for the neck. But a jugular strike has never sounded so good, and Middle Cyclone is shaping up to be another giant step forward for Case. So stay out of her way, or she might just step right through you.
