Neil Young: "Long May You Run" (Live on Conan) (Video)

The curious end to Conan O’Brien’s stint as the host of the Tonight Show played out on Friday (Jan. 22) night. It’s unlikely O’Brien will remain off-air for very long, and the good will that has flown toward him (and the sizable cash payout) will make the blow a soft one.

According to O'Brien's intro, Neil Young called him up and asked if he could appear on the final show when the news was announced. The talk show host duly obliged, and Young delivered this acoustic version of “Long May You Run,” which he could probably perform in his sleep at this point in his career, but still works well as a touching send-off.

This song is always so pleasant to hear. So, Conan is off the air now?

Yep, that's it. Unless another network hires him.

what does he say at the end there?? thanks for everything you've done for new music... who is that

Conan has always fostered new young musical talent by booking obscure new acts on his show-- that's what Neil Young was referring to, and it's one of the reasons he likes Conan.

Thank you for hosting this video. One of Neil's great songs & fitting for another untimely end to my favorite late night team.

Conan is touring the country until he returns to TV this fall.
