Nas revealed some details about his forthcoming tenth album, Life Is Good, earlier this month. Aside from saying it will be his best work to date — something he admits he says about every record — he promised that his first single would be called “Nasty.” He shrugged off assumptions that it would be a return to his earlier days, when he was indeed called Nasty Nas.
But damn it if he doesn’t sound just as energetic on the track as he did when the world first heard him on Main Source’s “Live at the Barbeque.” “Nasty” features the Queensbridge MC spitting once again over the work of longtime collaborator Salaam Remi, who has provided Nas with a minimalist, funky break-driven beat that perfectly suits his spirited flow. If this doesn’t get you excited for Life Is Good, it’s time you checked your pulse because this shit goes. Be prepared to give your speakers or headphones a workout.
