Nas: "Power, Paper, Pussy"

Nas: "Power, Paper, Pussy"

Nasty Nas is in your area about to cause mild hysteria: Nas wilds out on "Power, Paper, Pussy," a freestyle from an upcoming DJ Green Lantern mixtape that is due out soon. There are a couple easily identifiable samples here, and Nas has a couple good lines, but Illmatic (or Hip Hop Is Dead, even) this is not. Still though, is there a rapper that is as underrated, canon wise, as Nas? Discuss below after listening here.

Good question about his canon being underrated. I want to say no, just because I'm sort of a disenchanted former Nas fanatic. But I mean, I was one of like five people who probably played Street's Disciple more than once.

I guess I mean more like best rappers ever canon. He's dropped some serious bricks, but I feel like if you stack Illmatic against any other hip-hop album, Illmatic will crush. It's better than Tupac and Biggie's catalogs combined.

True, but like...eh, I don't know. I think Nas is obviously one of the best ever, but like you said, he has some serious bricks. Plus, 2pac's been unfairly exploited since his death so I try not to include most of the posthumous garbage.

Street's Disciple was okay.

h0gy

It has some heaters but it's got a lot of throwaways. And like I said, I loved that album, for some odd reason, when it dropped. I think it's just because I maintain that "Bridging the Gap" is dope as hell.

Is that the album where he says "it ain't a drop top, the titties is out" (or something to that effect?)

Sarcasm? If not, then, nah, that's from "Made You Look" off 'God's Son,' which is another almost solid, but flawed, Nas album.

And it's: "We can drive through the city no doubt, but don't say my car's topless, say the titties is out"

Sekou story is my jam, and god's son was solid, especially the jb sample on get down. I honestly like all of dude's canon, with the exception of nastradamus and untitled, both of which make me sleepy.

No sarcasm, I just love that line and can never remember which song that is. I kind of blend God's Son, Street's Disciple and Stillmatic together in my mind.

Haha, fair enough, mang.

And yeah, h0gy, I did that track, too...and yeah, those albums stank.

Disc 1 of Street's Disciple is flawless. Don't hate on Nasir.

Not flawless, but it is admittedly pretty dope

Sorry to use a Hov line but do you listen to music or skim through it?...Nas has put out all decent, good, or great albums. Streets disciple was a pretty good album great content and his unique touch if you are a fan you would know he doesn't do cliche music he speaks his mind and puts it out there after listening to album a few times over and over I understood the concept and the music and how the songs came together there may be 3 songs that aren't that great for a double disc album, so stop complaining I think Nas gets criticized so much because he is kinda the goat and everyone is always expecting something more but if you listen to his songs they are all good and he consistently puts out good albums. Untitled was a great album if you are looking for a pop album keep it moving if that's what was expected from Streets Disciple as well. Dude just makes good music and I believe only real niggs can understand or thinking man, cause if you really don't know what he is saying you just think it's some basic stuff but he stays deep and has even dumbed it down for the masses I've been seeing.
