You know what doesn't come up often regarding criticism of Watchmen (which is really great by the way)? The fact that the music (old songs from Nena, Wagner, Simon & Garfunkel, and Jimi Hendrix) really take you out of the movie (even more so than some clunky dialogue). I mean, sure, I get that it's in an alternate 1980s, but would Nena still have a hit single ("99 Luftballoons") that would need to be played as Silk Spectre II gets out of a car in a tight dress?
But the worst musical inclusion is the cover of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row" by My Chemical Romance, who remake the song into an atonal karaoke shout backed by Garage Band-esque punk riffs. The song closes the movie, and since Dylan's "The Times They Are A-Changin'" opens the movie, you can't have Dylan in the movie twice (licensing fees, y'all). But choosing this band to do this song is an aural disaster, and this dark "OMG this concert iz so crazee!" video doesn't do it any favors. Real talk, this song is the pits. [Idolator]

i guess all along the watchtower doesn't count?
