For his latest release, Murs went the sequel route. He followed up his widely loved 2002 EP, Varsity Blues, last week with the release of, well, the aptly titled Varsity Blues 2. And this past January he leaked the effort's title track, which I praised for its sounding like the Murs of old. He rapped introspective, life-reflecting bars over a monstrous beat from Aesop Rock, which are now accompanied by a slick video. The fact that we didn't hear much after "Varsity Blues 2" leaked a few months ago had me worried that it would fall by the wayside. But that feeling has obviously subsided after watching with these visuals and learning that the EP actually dropped last week.
