Mumford & Sons are so “authentic” that they dress like they’ve just stepped off the set of Deadwood, despite the fact that they come from London and probably all went to posh schools. Last night (Feb. 17) the band made its network television debut with this version of “Little Lion Man” on David Letterman’s show.
Marcus Mumford and his group perform folk music with a country twang to it, and it’s all very tasteful, very neat, very smooth around the edges—in other words, all the interesting things about folk and country are completely absent from their sound. Judging from this performance, they’ll probably go far.
I do like the four-in-the-front formation, though.
dont really understand all the negativity about their "authenticity" and what not. these guys area amazing. This video proves it

Hey Nick, what about Vampire Weekend? They all went to Ivy League schools but have a huge following because they play good music. And what is your definition of authenticity? Are you saying they can't play a certain type of music because they're not from a certain place? Maybe then people shouldn't listen to a certain type of music because you're not from said certain place.
So what if the imperfections aren't as present as you'd like? They're making the music they want to make. You're generalizing an entire genre of music based on one little detail. When you do this, you can't enjoy the music for what it is.
