MSTRKRFT: "Back In The USSA"
After receiving somewhat harsh feedback for 2009's guest-laden Fist of God, MSTRKRFT made their return last week with the awesomely titled "Beards Again." It was a catchy, dance-friendly track that carried enough unpredictable elements to make it not just another cut from the duo. The same can't necessarily be said for "Back in the USSA," no matter how much fun you can have with the laser-beam synthesizers. It is just a little too geared toward a fist-pumping, spray-tanning sect of fans, except for when you hit the 3:42 mark and everything gets...Ratatat-ish. I understand that the repetitive, building elements are essential to MSTRKRFT's sound, but "Back in the USSA" is simply too much.
