Mr Fogg: "Stay Out Of The Sun" (Mr Fogg Dub) (Prefix Premiere)

The original version of "Stay Out of the Sun" finds U.K. electronic musician Mr Fogg bridging the gap between minimalist bedroom pop and synth-laced balladry. Things get especially interesting and nearly unhinged toward the final third of the track, which crashes into you with huge percussion and hissing static before it falls apart for a gentle closing. It's those kinds of surprises that make Fogg's music so intriguing.

It's also why we were drawn to his own remix, or dub, of "Stay Out of the Sun." Rather than going in your typical remix direction, which often leads to house-influenced rave jams, Fogg strips away all the poppier elements of the track for something completely new. The driving percussion of the original might remain, but it's turned into the focal point of layers of bright church organs, hard piano strokes, and stuttering vocals. And, just like the original, there's a musical surprise waiting for you once the two-minute mark shuffles by.
