If the music scene in 2009 is remembered for anything, it might just be the firming up of relations between the disparate worlds of rap and indie rock. Amber Coffman and Haley Dekle from Dirty Projectors helped bridge that gap again last night (Nov. 25) on Jimmy Fallon’s show, where they performed “History” with Mos Def and Talib Kweli.
The song is taken from Mos Def’s critically acclaimed The Ecstatic album, and is driven by a shuffling, Clyde Stubblefield-esque beat, supplied here by Questlove from the Roots. Coffman and Dekle do a find job of cooing the title over and over, and you know what to expect from the two Black Star members by now.
Damn. Just damn. Recreating a Dilla beat live = awesome.
there's almost too much awesome here to be believed. Black Star reunion, Dirty Projectors (the hot ones), the Roots, Dilla (RIP)...Fallon ftw again!
that was wicked kewl...
Jimmy Fallon's show would be awesome if Jimmy Fallon weren't on it.
