Somehow Morningwood beat the odds stacked against them (they hit the trifecta of having a terrible name, a terrible album, and a terrible hit single) and are set to release new music. “Sugarbaby,” from the EP of the same name due out tomorrow digitally, is what you’d expect from these flaccid fellows—“hard” (I’m sorry) guitars, stupid choruses, and an ostensible message about promiscuity and a girl looking for a sugar daddy. It’s a hard pill to swallow, considering the people they slam here are the likeliest audience for this song. The video is supposed to hammer the message home, but it plays more like a rough approximation of the life of a woman looking for a sugardaddy would be like instead of the real thing (plus, there’s the whole puppet thing).
Sugarbaby is out tomorrow digitally via Capitol. [Stereogum]
