Fans of The Drums’ self-titled debut can go through their checklists and mark off every element that makes the band great while listening to “Money,” the first single from the NYC trio’s sophomore album, Portamento. There’s the hyper-charged sense of nervousness that surrounds most of their songs, the minimal guitar lines, and the reliably lovelorn vocals and lyrical concerns of frontman Jonathan Pierce. Where things differ this time around are in the stabs of keyboard that pop up, along with a general increase in melodic complexity. It’s a good look for these guys. Give it a spin below.
