MondreM.A.N: 'Dope Since '91' (Mixtape)

Let the truth be told: You're wrong if you think Twitter is only useful for shitty jokes, boring personal updates, and other mundane nonsense. While that stuff might be unfortunately prevalent, you can still find some gems amidst the foolishness. My latest find comes thanks to the relentless tweets of Danny Brown about Bay Area rap duo Main Attrakionz, of the Green Ova Undergrounds crew.

If you're like me at all, you are already judging them by their foolishly spelled name. But do yourself a favor and put that editorial prejudice aside for a second, because these dudes are making some damn fine music. Main Attrakionz's sound is cut from the same blunted-as-fuck cloth as contemporaries like Lil B and Domo Genesis. And they actually share a common bond with the Based God -- Main Attrakionz, too, have spit over Clams Casino's lo-fi, hazy production.

The latest release from the Bay Area camp is Dope Since '91, an album-like project from rapper MondreM.A.N. His Main Attrakionz brethren, Squadda B, joins him on the production end while the majority of beats come from fellow Green Ova member Nem270. Both producers complement Mondre's laid-back, smoked-out bars with background music suited for warm afternoons spent in a daze under overcast skies. But you could also bump this in your car, because the drums absolutely knock through the synth-created fog. And if the weather in your area isn't cooperating yet, just kick back and chill with this one. Or save it for the coming months.
