MMOTHS is kicking off his US tour today, and in honor of the occasion, here's the world premiere of a brand new track, "Folding."
Precocious Irish grooveslinger Jack Colleran's career as MMOTHS started when he was snowed in last Christmas with nothing to play with but a new copy of Ableton. Since then, his eighteenth birthday has come and gone, he's signed to SQE Music, released an EP (in March), opened for Aphex Twin, and now has the likes of Flying Lotus tweeting at him.
This spring's eponymous EP shimmered like a heat mirage, floated by like cirrus clouds. Over five tracks, the atmospheric daze of sluggish, repetitive melodies layered over brightly optimistic beats feels something like the lethargic buzz of being momentarily content somewhere, warm and safe with someone you like (while the lyrics hint at darker feelings lurking).
With "Folding," MMOTHS molts out of that downy coat of chillwave bliss, beginning to recall dubstep-deconstructionists like Martyn and Burial with a beat that touches on something more driving and intense than his past releases, yet remains just as light on its feet.
