With the Missing Monuments, King Louie Bankston leaves behind the wrecking-ball o’ grease that propelled his one man band and gets back to his power pop roots. “Girl of the Night,” the first single from the band’s debut full-length for Douchemaster, Painted White, is as consummate a composition as anything from Milk N’ Cookies, the Records, or even Louie’s former associates the Exploding Hearts. Presumably feeling better since putting in work with one-off power trio Bad Times (which also featured Jay Reatard and Goner-for-life Eric “Oblivian” Friedl) King Louie has restored dignity to the term “pop punk” with this one masterful stroke alone.
