Whether he’s whetting the appetite for his next album or simply proving that the best things in life really are free, R&B singer-songwriter Miguel has just released the final instalment of his trilogy of Art Dealer Chic EPs.
Like its first and second predecessors, the third volume delivers a three-track snapshot of Miguel’s wide-ranging talent. Setting off from a grimy garage rock guitar riff, “Party Life” builds into an energetic dance tune that nevertheless remains tinged with melancholy. By contrast, the bedpost-busting “Ooh Ahh!” condenses a lifetime’s sexual tension beneath its aching falsetto vocals. A nice change of pace, “Candles In The Sun, Blowin In The Wind” builds a poignant meditation on social problems around a hard-hitting sample from John Lennon’s final interview.
