"Hold My Hand" is the first single from Michael Jackson's upcoming posthumous release, Michael. The collaboration with Akon actually leaked in an early form back in 2008, but following Jackson's death Akon revisited the track and finished it up in the studio. Akon actually argued for the revised version to be included on the upcoming album in a statement:
"The world was not ready to hear 'Hold My Hand' when it leaked a couple years ago. We were devastated about it. But its time has definitely come; now in its final state, it has become an incredible, beautiful, anthemic song. I'm so proud to have had the chance to work with Michael, one of my all-time idols."
While there are some noticeable differences between the early version and Akon's reworking, the song is still a misguided and saccharine mess. This doesn't bode well for the full album. You can listen to "Hold My Hand" at breakingnews.michaeljackson.com or below.
