We previously about heard about Micachu & the Shapes' project a week or so ago when the band announced that it would be releasing a live album, Chopped & Screwed, with the London Sinfonietta. While it does feature new compositions, this is not the proper follow-up to Jewellery. Rather, it's an experiment of sorts between the group, which made their own instruments, and the Sinfonietta.
Together they have made music that is influenced by both classical and crunk music, which you can get a taste of with "Everything." It's built on layers strumming and thumping acoustic percussion, which provide a canvas for Mica's vocals. They're both punchy and droning, depending on when she floats them over the instrumentation. And when combined, it makes for an intriguing, oddly catchy listen.
Stream or download the track below. Chopped & Screwed is due out March 28.
