M.I.A.: "XXXO"

Another track from M.I.A.'s third album has surfaced, thanks to BBC's Radio 1. "XXXO" is a caffinated banger, with twirling synths, industrial clanging, and one of the most straightforward beats she's ever appeared on. The directness also applies to her vocal performance, which finds her sounding subdued during the verses, and downright diva-like during the chorus.

Put it this way, if "Born Free" was the soundtrack to drinking gasoline spiked with whiskey, "XXXO" is the gallon-of-sugar chaser. To the best of my knowledge, no redheads were harmed in the making of this track.

M.I.A.'s still untitled new album is due on June 29 via N.E.E.T./Interscope. Blogger Alec Curtis is currently hosting an mp3 of "XXXO." Check it out here.

I'm a redhead, and I was harmed from my eardrums losing cochlea to this awesome song.

I guess that still doesn't apply to "no redheads harmed during the making of this track" - I guess I'm collatoral damage -- :)
