Apparently that Jay-Z “Boyz” remix from yesterday wasn’t Jay paying his respects to M.I.A. for using “Paper Planes” in “Swagger Like Us”: it was because Interscope, M.I.A.’s record company, is putting “Boyz” out as a single again, hoping to cash in “Paper Planes” becoming a hit due to Pineapple Express. Further more, as Elitaste is reporting, they asked mixtape hype Wale to jump on the track to do a remix version. Problem is, Wale did that last summer as a way to prove his worth to Jay-Z, who was then head of Def Jam. Wale obliged with a version last year, and he also agreed to do another version this year, of which the MP3 appears above.
Wale’s remix doesn’t benefit from new verses from M.I.A. like Jay’s did, but Wale does a better job flowing along to the original as opposed to Jay trying to fit the track to his flow. Wale’s bars feature shout-outs to Obama, Crocs, and the fact that this is is version 2.0 of his “Boyz” remix. [Elitaste]
