Anyone hankering after a heady return to the summer of 2008 is likely to enjoy this version of “Time to Pretend.”
Amazingly, the song still sounds as fresh as it did back then, suggesting MGMT really are capable of producing straight-up pop classics if they put their minds to it. And while that new album isn’t as bad as some people say, hearing “Time to Pretend” now does make it seem like an object lesson in always sticking to what you do best.
