MGMT's Congratulations is many things, but full of jams that would sound cool acoustically it is not. The title track is it, pretty much. But instead of performing that when prompted to record an acoustic track for CD101, they chose "Song for Dan Treacy," a shrill ode to the Television Personalities frontman. Removed of its buzzing electronics and schizophrenic tone, this song got even worse. And I refuse to buy the notion that's been floating around that Congratulations would have been better if it was the debut instead; no matter what way you cut it, this is rough stuff. [YANP]
