MGMT's "Flash Delirium" is the first track leaked from the band's upcoming Congratulations album. And some of the elements of what made this duo so endearing to critics and listeners are there, though this track is much more experimental. "Flash Delirium" goes all over the place with choral bridges, huge builds, strange breakdowns, a crazy finish, and a catchy-as-hell beat. The psychedelic leanings are particularly intriguing, as are the somewhat tribal pieces scattered about. Most interesting, though, will be the reaction of fans, especially those who lost their shit over "Kids" and "Electric Feel" because this cut is quite the departure.
Download "Flash Delirium" at the MGMT site. Congratulations drops April 13.
Weird song. Not what I expected.
I actually like this more than anything on their debut (which I wasn't that big a fan of, an all honesty). This is a lot more ambitious musically.
Same here, Ethan.
I just want more fun club tracks. This is a huge improvement on the psych-tinged stuff on their debut, but I don't see myself listening to this album if they're gonna pursue this sound. They've been hanging with Wayne Coyne too much.
Reminds me of trying to listen to a whole Mars Volta song.
There are moments where this is kind of interesting (the Zombies-indebted parts especially), but on the whole it's kind of a mess.
