As we noted last week, the lukewarm critical reception afforded to Congratulations and the band’s penchant for apologizing for its contents haven’t stopped fans from snapping up copies of the new MGMT record. They capitalized on this mini resurgence by playing “Flash Delirium” and “Brian Eno” from the album on Saturday Night Live this past weekend.
The record isn’t as “difficult” as some have claimed it to be—certainly anyone who reveled in Merriweather Post Pavilion last year won’t have too many problems getting to grips with Congratulations—and these performance demonstrate how this is simply a small left turn for the band, with many of the psychedelic leanings of their debut album built on and taken into a different space.
I don't really think they have anything to apologize for...
I don't think this record is "difficult." I think it "sucks."
Oh, it's "difficult" --Difficult to listen to cause of a general lack of decent hooks.
Loving the new record and thought these were really solid performances. Can't wait to see these guys on tour this summer.
