The title track of MGMT’s Congratulations is one of the more downbeat tracks on the mixed bag of a second album from the band. But, like many of the other songs lifted to promote the record, it has a spectacular video, which features Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden following a sad looking creature across a Tatooine-esue desert landscape.
Anyone who finds themselves reduced to blubber at E.T. should have some tissues on hand for this one, but it provides a neat visual counterpart to the mournful nature of the song, which is one of the standout tracks on the album. If there’s an award for Saddest Music Video of 2010, MGMT might have just grabbed it.
