I’ve always had a fondness for capes, so the lackluster stylings of Congratulations are all but forgotten now the members of MGMT have decided to deliver their latest fashion statement on David Letterman’s show. Gold and red glittery capes and even some Brian Eno-esque feathers from his Roxy Music days are all on display, which is appropriate as “Brian Eno” is the song they performed on the show.
This is one of the better tracks on the record, full of odd psychedelic flourishes and prog-tastic keyboard sounds, and while some may cringe at hearing Eno immortalized in song this way, it’s important to remember that a vast swathe of MGMT’s young audience probably don’t know who he is—and if this encourages them to rush out and buy a copy of Here Come the Warm Jets, it can only be a good thing.
