“Brian Eno” is rapidly becoming the song of choice for MGMT during their jaunt into our living rooms via various TV appearances. Sadly, the lavish costumes worn by the band during its recent appearance on Letterman were left at home for this down-to-earth performance on Jools Holland’s show last night (May 25).
Remember that scene in Spinal Tap (below) where the band breaks out its medieval gear, plays “Stonehenge,” and is upstaged by that famously tiny stage prop? I can’t help thinking that certain passages of “Brian Eno,” notably the whimsical keyboard flourishes, veer dangerously close to that kind of territory.
That Spinal Tap connection is great, Nick. I couldn't put my finger on what those chords at the beginning of "Brian Eno" reminded me of...
Such a great scene. Comedy.
