Canadian indie rockers Metric are currently in the U.K., ostensibly to promote last year’s Fantasies album. This performance from Jools Holland’s show was of the third single from the record, “Gimme Sympathy,” which eagle-eyed readers may remember for its one-take promo video (see below).
At this point in Metric’s career, four albums in, with little discernible change in style or direction, you’re either on board with them or you’re not. But the band remains a popular live draw, and it’s not hard to see why here, as they deliver a tight, professional performance—it’s just difficult to feel really moved by this stuff.
