Mazzy Star: "Common Burn"

Yesterday we got a taste of the newly reunited Mazzy Star in the form of the B-side to the band’s new single, which is titled “Lay Me Down.” Now comes the A-side to that release, which is named “Common Burn” and continues in much the same vein as the last material we heard from the group circa Among My Swan in 1996. David Roback is still a supremely talented guitarist, knowing exactly when not to play so that Hope Sandoval’s beautiful vocals are allowed to just hang there in the air. There’s a country feel to this, just as there is to “Lay Me Down,” with subtle blasts of harmonica and a bed of softly beaten vibraphone providing the grounding from which the song lifts. Check it out below. [via CoS]
