Matthew Friedberger: "Shirley"
Last week, we brought you details about Fiery Furnaces' plans to release a whopping 11 albums next year. Today comes the first single from album one: it's called "Shirley," and it's from Matthew Friedberger's piano-heavy solo album, Napoleonette. Friedberger's plan is to have all of his solo albums be heavy on one specific instrument, and "Shirely" bears that out, being that it's mostly just his vocals and a rumbling piano line. I'm more interested to see what happens when he gets to double bass. Listen over at Stereogum.
Napoleonette is due out in January.
