Matthew Dear: "Soil to Seed"
It's hard to call Matthew Dear a "pop" artist, even when it's more or less clear that that's what he's peddling. Really, the slow-burning "Soil to Seed" has enough minimalism that it could just seem like a particularly upbeat track from his Audion project; it's chiefly set apart from that by Dear's vocals, which sound more than a little like Buffalo Bill. Maybe Dear will make all of the clearer on his upcoming Black City release, due out Aug. 17 on Ghostly International.
