Mastodon: "Spectrelight"

Mastodon's new album, The Hunter, keeps sounding better and better with each single the band releases to the web. Both "Black Tongue" and "Curl of the Burl" served as evidence in the case that the guys are moving back to their more straightforward crushing sound. And the latest single, "Spectrelight," only futher cements that notion. With some help from Neurosis' Scott Kelly, Mastodon go for the gut in terms of rolling drum hits, crushing guitars, and a soaring chorus. You can almost see the sea of fist-pumps hitting the air when that shit hits. It's absolutely huge and proof positive that this band is one of metal's most inventive and intriging acts.

You can stream the track below. Just don't stare too hard. The Hunter drops Sept. 27.
