Actor Sam Rockwell claimed to “Google the hell out of these guys” when Jimmy Fallon asked him if he was into Mastodon during their introduction on his show last night (Oct. 29).  Wisecracks aside, the band demonstrated just why they are the breakout metal band of 2009, with a punishing run-through of “Divinations” from Crack the Skye.

The set of a late night TV talk show may not be the best pace to catch the band—in fact, they look distinctly uncomfortable—but the folks on the “band bench” behind them try to nod their heads politely and probably wonder what on earth they’re watching.
