After her pretty terrible "Obsessed" failed to morph into a hit, Mariah Carey's label has decided her cover of Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is" will be its next attempt to make her upcoming album, Memoirs of a Perfect Angel, a mega-smash. Somehow, Mariah is able to make Foreigner's version seem restrained and tasteful, since she does her vocal histrionics over piano-led gospel chorus that suggests the closing credits of Sister Act 2. I can't imagine this will be an enormous hit, because who in their right mind would want another version of this song floating around? [via Idolator]

Obsessed never failed- its still soaring at #11 (highest debut since 1998)...doing well with 500K in sales/downloads...better than Whinnie & Madgie...so there gud enuf?! :P Memoirs is gonna set a higher bar for every other artiste...and with this song ...its sure a winner in every music lover...we are here to admire talent/voice/music..credits shud b given for Mariah as she did the song brilliantly ..MimI's way... |

Obsessed didn't reach number one, but that's a standard of hit that only artists like Mariah Carey are held to. It reached the top 10 and still lingers on the charts. It just wasn't a smash. To be honest, I have always disliked Mariah Carey's persona, but her voice, her talent... wow. After 20 years, I'm ready to give her the credit that's due her. She's a legend that is as modern today as she was 20 years ago. She's never out of the loop. |
