Marco Polo, whose beats are a blend of Pete Rock and DJ Premier, has displayed quite the ability to link up with hardcore MCs over the years. Most recently, he dropped a full-length with Brooklyn rapper Torae entitled Double Barrel, which was full of shit-talking and tough-guy rap over golden era boom-bap.
And this year, the New York-by-way-of-Toronto producer is releasing The eXXecution, a collaborative record with Sean Price's protege Ruste Juxx. "Nobody" is the latest single from the album and its driven by Marco Polo's fantastic, slightly jazzy production. Juxx complements the beat, per usual, and shows why Price took the younger MC under his wing. The only problem comes during the chorus, which isn't that surprising as a lot of hardcore rap features repetitive, uninspired hooks.
The eXXecution is due out March 23 on Duck Down Records. And this whole Marco Polo + [hardcore MC] has me thinking: Who's next?
